“My second year of teaching I struggled a great deal. So, I made my way into Mark’s office, utterly exhausted and emotionally drained, and told him my difficulties. During that conversation, what stands out to me the most is when he stated “Elizabeth, you have to decide - are you sure teaching is your calling?”

And to be honest, I was initially offended, because I had wanted to be a teacher for most of my life. But in retrospect, I have to thank him for saying that, because if it weren’t for that conversation, I don’t know if I would have pushed myself to become the best educator I could be….

Mark Covington is a person who positively impacted my life and those that he led, whether as a school leader, a teacher, a mentor, or simply just a listening ear. I know the Howard County Board of Education would benefit greatly from his involvement.”

“I believe Mark when he says our schools should be places of possibility — where every child, no matter their background, has access to a high-quality education.

I believe Mark when he says that he believes in strong support for our teachers, open communication with families, and policies that reflect the real needs of our students.

I believe that Mark is ready to bring his experience, heart, and vision to the Board of Education.

Howard  County, you need leaders on the board who understand what happens in schools every day — who believes in the work that schools are doing for students, who has been a leader, and who has never stopped caring. Mark is someone who believes that when we invest in our kids, we invest in our future.”
